Designing and implementing software packages for various industrial applications.
Designing means, systems, and required mechanisms for national and international technology for the requirements of developing the Egyptian industry.

2-Small Industries Development Tabbin Technology Incubator
Philosophy:
Due to the fact that small industries provide more job opportunities than large corporations, Small Industries Incubator helps in creating new job opportunities by increasing the success rate of small industries. The Incubator is an integrated business process which provides all the facilities as a suitable place with all the requirements to start small businesses. Such process is managed via presenting all kinds of technical, financial, administrative and marketing support.
The main goal of the Incubation Programme is to qualify successful graduates beside providing businesses that can be independent financially after leaving the incubator, usually within two to four years.
Originating the Incubator:
The contract of the Incubator was signed in 1/7/1998 between the Social Fund for Development as the Sponsor, Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies as the hosting institution and the Egyptian Incubator Association as an implementing agency responsible for establishing and operating the incubator. The estimated value of the contract is L.E.1,600,000 including the setting up of the incubator and covering any deficit in the incubator income during the first three years.

The Incubator Facilities:
- Providing a suitable business community for the small industries.
- Providing all kinds of support to small enterprises.
- Being close to technical and consolatory services available at TIMS and the research centers.
- Presenting suitable services for the members through a professional working team for managing the incubator on accurate and progressive basics.
- Combining industrial pollution monitoring facilities and laboratories.
- Total area is 4810 m˛; 18 enterprises in the first stage, to be increased to 40 enterprises in the second stage.

The Incubator main services:
- Management support.
- Financial support.
- Technical services.
- Marketing services.

This is in addition to the role of the Incubator as a consolatory for technical services, feasibility studies, business plans, etc.

3- Energy and Environment Research Center (E2RC)

The Energy and Environment Research Center (E2RC) has been established at TIMS. The centre is technically, administratively and financially independent.
It is equipped by the latest updated pollution measuring equipment and a mobile laboratory.

The Objectives of E2RC:
Offering necessary technical consultation for technology transfer.
Studying energy and environment projects in cooperation with the scientific research center.
Offering technical facilities necessary for training the staff involved in planning, energy conservation and environmental projects.
Conducting scientific and applied researches.
Offering technical support to the industrial companies and commercial enterprises enabling them to comply with the national environment laws and the international standard regulations.
Designing programme packages and databases.
Holding conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes as well as issuing publications.

4- Post Graduate Studies

The Presidential Decree no. 11330/ 1975 issued for the establishment of Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies (TIMS) states that one of the main objectives of TIMS is to qualify specialists from the university graduates to cope with the specific technological planning and the industrial economic requirements.
The post graduate studies in TIMS are organized in the following phases:

I-Preparatory Semester (two months)
During which the specialist studies several specialized courses, depending on the chosen field of specialization. This semester is followed by practical training inside and outside Egypt.
II-Diploma Study (one year)
During which the specialist carries out a practically housed research project in one of the industrial plants. The study is terminated by a thesis to be discussed and defended among a committee.
More than 780 specialists from Egypt, Arab countries, as well as the developing countries have graduated from TIMS.
Graduates from metallurgical industries represent about 47% of the total number of TIMS graduates, while other engineering sectors such as chemical, mining, refractory, weaving and textiles, petroleum and military production represent 36%.
To apply for postgraduate studies, please contact the Educational Affairs Department.

5- Industrial Electronic and Electrical Services
Experience and high technology equipment are our tools for providing industrial services through:
The services provided by TIMS in this field include:

Industrial measurements (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.)
Calibration of industrial electrical modules (volt, current, capacitance, inductance, etc.)
Electrical measurements for long duration (up to a week) on electrical stations in the plants (P.F., Wm THD spectrum harmonic, V, I, swell, sag, surge and power quality)
Studies for energy conservation
Troubleshooting, tuning control system and getting solution for optimum automatic operation
Troubleshooting electronic boards
Kindly contact us for further explanation.

6- Information Center
In order to provide the industrial sectors, the universities and research institutes by the latest updated researches and technologies in their fields, TIMS has signed an agreement with the German International Cooperation Bureau in March 1996. This agreement allowed TIMS the right to an on-line access to the electronic databases of the International Science and Technology Network (STN) since January 1997.
STN is an international information network which contains more than 200 databases covering the engineering, chemical, agricultural, medical and patent fields.
STN is operated cooperatively by:
· Fachinformations Zentrum (FIZ), Karlsruhe –Germany.
· Chemical Abstracts Services (CAS) – ISA.
· Japan Information Center of Science and Technology (JICST)-Japan.
You are invited to try STN free of charge from our gate: WWW.FIZ-Karlsruhe.de; or to search for the required information via TIMS information center by filling the “Search Form”.
For more information, please contact “Information center”.

7- Training and Continuous Education

In order to improve the skills of the specialists in the industrial sectors and update their knowledge, TIMS carries out continuous engineering education and training programmes in special fields related to the scientific departments of the Institute.

Training programmes are classified into short-term programmes (1-2 weeks) and long-term ones (3-6 months). In addition, tailor-made and special training courses and programmes are organized either in TIMS or at the sites.

For detailed information, please contact the Training Department.

8- Scientific Publications
TIMS has the following periodicals:
The Bulletin
Is a periodical issued in English twice a year.
TIMS Bulletin includes the latest research works in various industrial fields. Special issues of the Bulletin are devoted to specific industrial topics and their latest technology.

10 - Advanced Material unit using Solar Furnace

A solar furnace is a structure used to harness the sun's rays to produce very high temperatures. A solar furnace concentrates solar flux to produce heat (up to 2,500°C) at the focal point. It consists of a large flat mirror in the foreground, called a heliostat (49 heliostats) installed on 7 terraces reflects the sunlight on the parabolic reflector. Every heliostat position is calculated so that the reflected light is parallel to the symmetry axis of the parabolic. The parabolic reflector gives at the focal point a maximum flux of 1000 W/cm2. The experimentations take place at the focal zone (1.2 m in front of the parabolic). The range of available temperature is from 800° to 2500 °C for a maximum thermal power of 1500 W.
This furnace is used in:
- Synthesis and production of various refractory compounds with predetermined properties.
- Development of technology and manufacturing of products made of modern technical ceramics for medicine, light, electro technical, chemical and oil-gas industries.
- Welding and Heat treatment of metals at different temperatures with various heating rates.

11 – Key Performance Indicators unit

Key Performance Indicators define a set of values used to measure against. These raw sets of values fed to systems to summarize information against are called indicators.
Preparation of database to quantify objectives to reflect strategic performance of TIMS. This unit belong to the director technical office.
- Collect, evaluate and summarize information about TIMS activities.
- Analyze information and offers recommendations.
- Support and help in achieving technical work goals of higher management.
- Suggesting ideas for improving technical work goals achievement.
